Hope

I watch over him, almost
as if he was my son, making sure
he isn't too tired or drained
from his first half days back to work.

I drive him in the early hours of the morning
and bring him back after noon.
I pass beautiful countryside,
leaving my mind to wander.

I don't know how he does it,
two brain operations within four months
and trying to keep that positive flow,
knowing that yesterday's MRI, may
bring bad news, once again.

I sit and wait each day, for his call.
Hoping that it means he is ready to come home
from work, and not that he has blacked out.

It's all I can offer and today he asked me
if I wanted some bamboo plants for my gardens.
I really don't think he knew that
I didn't need any more plants,
but I thought it might help him by
separating his extras.

So, I brought my shovel, after his short
nap break and used enough energy to cause me
to drip with sweat. But I did it,
and now have something that was his
to plant later this evening or in the morning
to remind me of him and his positive attitude.

And no matter what happens, I
will be there to share in his life,
hopefully, for each year to come.

M

M, this is deeply touching and beautiful. Great that you let him bring the plants. You share not only the worries but also these joyful moments.
Best wishes.
Love, Margherita

A bit of a saintly tale, this.
Helps my day today too.
Thank you thrice.

Very nice work

Every day is a gift.  Most of us live as if there is an endless supply, when in fact it is a tiny finite number.

Thank you all.

I am having a busy and tiring week, but a young friend (of my eventually ex-husband)
needed someone to help him for several days, hoping that next week he can go back to a full day's work and continue on with living.

He has taught me much about hope and positive thinking and I guess I have more caregiving in me than I realized.

So if I am not responding very much, it doesn't mean that I am not reading...(which I am doing to relax) It just means my mind can't think of decent responses to the wonderful poems on here.

Thanks again,
M

Don't underestimate the positive energy you give him, by caring, and sharing with him. You're good.

Maureen, this moving poem perfectly illustrates your generous and loving soul.
There is so much depth to your writing because there is so much depth to you...

Loving, healing hugs to you both,
Linda

I thank each of you for your kind words.
He is very special, and was here to help me when no one else offered. So it is almost a pleasure for me to do for him. And takes away the dreariness of another lonely, rainy day.
