Birthed from melt of mountain’s snow, And nurtured by spring’s gentle rains, Your tributaries speed your flow, Across the breadth of Kansas plains. O’ Smoky Hill, thy currents flowing, Through farmer’s field and city’s sprawl, Within thy depths lays spirit knowing, Entrapped, ensconced in river’s thrall. Above south winds in ceaseless blow, Across your wide and fertile valley, Within high banks you ever flow, Through Kansas plains in endless sally. As we all drink of spirit’s flow, And sate our thirst from river’s give, O’ Smoky Hill, to thee we owe, Our verdant land, the life we live. Then Smoky meets old Saline then to Solomon it joins in flow and in the waters meandering ancient stories stream from long ago... ~*~ Thank you, Sir! |
