Write to me of mystery
of sorceries foul and fair
Make good your boast
and take this host,
Into the gryphons lair
So I can feel the romance real
And give up mundane care.

Speak to me of savagery
Of times and tides gone past
Where men of might, fought for the right
and maiden's hand surpassed
under your wing, I know one thing
the real world cannot last.

Send unto me, a Judas tree
A magic pure and true
Peace, true and just cannot be cussed
when coming straight from you
Then on your wing, I'll soar and sing
This time is gone on cue.

Take from me my poetry
Its magic lifts your soul
Read things deep, you'll better sleep
to quietly make you whole
the world outside, and all your pride;
is lost to questing role

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Well, Keth, you know I always do what I'm told, but it didn't exactly come out like I thought it would. Magic and Mystery? I suppose. Here goes:

Avra-el

In misty Avra-el, on the shores
of a frigid loch,
the wee folk scheme their rancid schemes,
and plot their slimy plots.

In shrouded towers the high elves hug
tight their wounded pride,
and dream of shadowed forest days
and spider-silken nights.

Malice drifts like ancient wraiths
afraid of clean sunlight;
the Sidhe set sail toward paradise
but foundered on their spite.

Nan,
thanks and...
The unsleigh sidhe
and seelie wight,
have ventured forth
to claim the night

Where malice deep
will call the tune
and dead men sleep,
to turn the moon

In Avra-el,
the rancid toad
foreshadows hell -
and walks the road

Where mystery
at dawn of day
is kept, from me
by spite's own way

This tale untrue;
but bitter gall
becomes my rue -
consumes my all

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

I have to agree.

Avra-el

Ghostly fingers stir a haze
lying low upon the murky loch.
A dim and distant sun looks down;
in the air, a smell of rot.

The days are chill in Avra-el;
the nights like watered wine.
The banshee rides a fitful breeze,
the Bright Sidhe wither with their vine.

Too many stars have fallen now,
too many dreams have passed.
There is no hope for Avra-el,
it drifts, and dies, at last.

Nan , thanks so much for the double response but you shouldn't encourage me - I'm bad enough without it.

Here is your punishment.

The mystery of bright new day
is hidden deep in Avra-el
the loch of dark has claimed its prey
the rotting corpse begins to swell

The watered wine with chill of gall;
they've darkling tastes in Avra-el
the banshee sings laments, in call
to trap the Sidhe in deeds of fell

The bright Sidhe wither from their vine
the stars fall too in Avra-el
the dreams have gone, it's past their time
the magic time is dead in dell

And mystery has set its course
to leave the realm of Avra-el
into the land of men by force
come darkling dreams and hollow spell

Magnus,
if I'm inspired to write it's because there are so many other inspiring writers on this and other sites.

Enchantress,
I don't know about wonderful but it was magic to write and as you can see magic = unpredictable.

Dark Angel,
I scribble but you write. I'm glad you enjoyed my scribble.

Startime55,
thank you for your flow, both poetic and encouraging.

Marge,
it was days of yore but inspired by your days of glory.

Vandana,
and could it be that I should boast?
Except within the gift you gave
I appreciate you more than most
Your 'enjoyed' is what I crave.

BluesSerenade,
lol, unique is one way to put it. Thanks for your kindness.

nakdthoughts,
I'm so glad you looked again. Thanks for the encouragement.

Beloved one this is absolutely wonderful and I’m bumping it to the top. So this is just a little bit of play from me but its no match for you and Nan. You know that I adore you and think your writing is outstandingly good. Well this is especially so. Truly superb writing beloved one

Poor Avra-el you’ve got it wrong
Its not a place so darkly fell
Listen to the Banshee’s song
And go again to Avra-el

The wine is rich and very red
Not pale and watered gall
And Avra-el is alive not dead
Come hear the Sidhe call

The fairy folk dance all night
And Mr. Toad holds court
Avra-el is a place of light
Where dreams are always sought

Come once again to Avra-el
And feel its enchantment speak
Hear the tone of music’s bell
And fantasies go seek

Un-shield your mortal eyes behold
Avra-el waits for you
Maidens fair and hero’s bold
Reveal this place is true

Love you always
And forever
Slushy

Tomorrow is another day I don't know what it holds
but I can face the future with courage brave and bold

Sven,
how could I forget you. Thanks for your response.

garysgirl,
Thank you so much for your response.

Marsha,
give me a moment for pity's sake...
ok enough, boy you play rough!

In Avra-el, the tales do tell
of mystery and light
where brighter Sidhe
will do the deed
and fantasy takes flight
where darkling dreams
or so it seems
are lost to magic bright

this place is true
although the rue
to Langothe now is lost.
And Avra-el
or, so tales tell
has gone to pay the cost
the minstrels lied
though dreamers cried
and strove- spent and star crossed

The maidens fair
and heroes rare
in Avra-el do dwell
although they seek
the rift is weak
and all roads lead to hell
then with their pride
and pain inside
they paint in faerie tell

Yet speak to me
of mystery
for Avra-el is real
for darkling dreams
and all my schemes
can never make me feel
and I would dwell
in Avra-el
rent wide its magic seal

Then all may know
the place to go,
by which we are defined
that - magic there
in which to share,
creates a bitter bind
for dark and light
take up the fight
unravel and rewind.

You guys! I'm in a bind here, but here goes:

Avra-el (The Beginning)

Ah, my dear, my Avra-el,
lost in chilly mists.
Listen to the tale I tell,
of love that’s sorrow-kissed.

The nervous child-queen hummed,
enchantment filled the air.
Hoof-falls clacked and drummed
across the cobbled square.

Her ladies in their bright attire
stood around the queen.
Across the threshold fell the squire,
the girl began to keen.

In grief she saw him rise to speak,
gasping out her fear.
“The king is dead, the vultures sleek,
the dark horde drawing near.”

“The army’s gone, we can’t defend
the walls. Their cold iron bites
through our shields-this thing called men
is worse than orcs and wights.”

He staggered then, and fell dead at the word;
the ladies round began to wail.
The young queen bent and took his sword,
“They’ll never have this vale!”

She climbed the ramparts, sword in hand,
and saw the coming shade.
She drew a black and scarlet brand
on air, with shining blade.

She spoke a word that dripped with blood,
and crumpled to the ground.
The troops came on through mist and mud,
but no city could be found.

Locked in dreams of love and light,
the elf-queen lies in state.
And Avra-el knows clouded night,
and cold stone hurt and hate.
