Tell me how your garden grows
greener on the other side
back in days of crueler worlds
the relentless flow of consumers
it was thought some cosmic purpose
existed in the power of the purse
persisted in sickly stuggles for brighter days
consisted of slate grey skies in sunnier times
and weekends at home with wounds to lick
back in the days of larger worlds
when distances registered longer
and words had value on paper.

but then cellulose fibres collapse
libraries are ruefully pillaged
contents sorrowfully crumble
as visual memories do with age
and inexorable needs advance
with fresher eyes
back in the days of a world
where I was created for a purpose
which I will never know
tell me how a garden grows
greener on the other side.

Layered this with metaphors and symbolism, and stuck rods of thought throughout...you whisked me back to the 60's, 70's, brought me through the 80's in a wink, passed by the 90's like they weren't even there...and brought me into the 21st century as if I had standing next to Rod Serling...

I think I'm more inclined to see if I can make my own side of the fence grow greener in it's blades, now, than I am to explore to see if it is better on the other side...visit, perhaps, but will rest content taking care of all my own, of which I own naught...it is only here on a temporary lease, y'know...

Thank you Ecrivan.  I so enjoy your writings.

Thanks Karilea,

Lately reinterpreting quotes, expressions and proverbs, when at my 9 to 5 thing
would be ingredients for any modern poet today...somehow see truths in them that make those statements all that more valuable...your feedback is touching and yes best to take care of our own lot in life first. Happy Mother's Day
