Faintly, beyond the fire’s edge, a knock
upon the weathered door of a poet’s mind
as a dream escapes the embers of a log
lying quietly in the crackle.

Stirring ever slightly, a soft moan escaping
lips weathered by endless days of the
cruelty of a silent and stealthy solar ray...

A voice whispering...
“Take of me the feathered beast that writes,
that scurries over the once pure parchment
spilling the black blood of a man’s life.”

Twitching...a hand moves ever slightly
as though perhaps a word might be
felt within the tips of slender, yet
learned fingers...

Again...a voice ever faint..
“Ride the wind before the tether
hobbles the mare.  Bring the words
to feed the mind’s pasture”..

A shadow slowly escapes the room
as flickering orange dances the poet’s
closed eyes.

A smile comes over worn lips
as a latch softly clicks.

And so the poet prepares a feast that gives pleasure to both body and soul of readers who crave the flame that burns within the heart of one whose talent is timeless...Ah, Sage, you have become, dear friend....A Sage who understands much and gives all....MAGNIFICENT WRITING...

Magnus...A very warm and tender poem that brings me back to the days of Keats and all those now silenced authors of yore. ***Ivy Rose

Barry this was so good and I wish you would try doing something in the Prose section.  This ended far to quickly for my liking

... and to see beyond the guise of tethered embers... into pure flame.

this poem is immensely inspirational.
