Moving Day She isn’t ready to recreate herself - this shifting of shape comes when it will, sheds old skin in lifeless piles, in empty rooms of houses she’ll abandon, leaving the new owners to wonder why they hear footfalls down their darkened halls and why extinct thoughts crawl into their dreams. A hermit crab leaves its old home when it’s time, when he finds a better shell or can to occupy, or if driven away by predators. She cannot name her assailant, perhaps she naively lets death enter through unlocked doors.
