The old woman, driven by pain, and come to her end battling no more the purchase of breath, sees beyond her wizened degrade, assuredly unafraid of the life that no longer depends On powders and cures, professionals' demure to the needs of a stretched and wearied soul, that needs not regain thru' some prolonging stain her length of days now finite, and sure. What of the loved ones, that gather to bedside in reach of a hoped-for and hesitant hand, laying to rest in this time of their duress the last pound of flesh from the old woman's hide-- Or hidden away from the inglorious delay, the widow's release to newly-partner'd peace? They might soon realize in the drying of eyes the woman's turn to love, to laugh, and to play. [This message has been edited by waldopepper (04-11-2003 02:34 AM).] |

Thanks Joyce. A very good friend's Mother passed away this morning. Her Mom was the kind of person that everyone came to for support and love and kindness. She was a most giving soul. Now its time for her to get back some of what she gave for so long. |

When someone passes away and is really sick or elderly, comfort can always be found in the fact that they aren't hurting or lonely anymore. Your poem told this very well. Very vote-worthy. Hugs, Ethel |

(drying eyes~~~~ swallowing hard) This poem brought me to my knees.... and to tears of a grief that I do not know first hand yet..... and hope will not be too soon. I just recently moved away from the city where my grandparents live, too far away to make regular visits.... I worry about them both because they are in their late 70's and early 80's.... Grandma is heavy and arthritic, and tires easily...and Grandpa has Parkinson's... Luckily, my uncle still lives in the area. But I know that every day for them is precious... and they are precious to me.... they raised my brother and me for the most part.... and put up with a lot.... getting off track.... Voting..... Sherry Cherish the good memories of the past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow. But above all... be kind to yourself today. |

Oh Waldo how beautifullly you have summed up feelings I know only too well ~ "They might soon realize in the drying of eyes the woman's turn to love, to laugh, and to play." Such a glorious thoughts as they move on. Bonnie |

What a lovely poem! --It would make such a wonderful gift for your friend. I hope this poem makes it between the covers of Reflections, not only for its poetic merit, but for the treasured family keepsake a book with this poem would be. Love & Eternal Light, Linda |

This poem has the virtue of brevity. This allows it to be understood only if other features, such as an appropriate tone of gravity and respect and clarity of expression, are present. You have created a fine poem here by paying attention to such technical issues. For me, the poem created emotions in me akin to those felt by you and which inspired the piece. It has my vote!
