If I could touch the hand of poetry just once a night
all my thoughts would be spilled
and I would be rested.
These thoughts drown me.
They are like love letters to a desire
that envelopes every moment
I have to share in an unbridled need to create.
I tell them poetry when they ask me what I write
and now that is even an understatement.
What to say to those with a curiosity about this talent that is my breath?
Shall I tell them I write, not poetry, but detailed testimonies of my heart and soul
filling moments with explanations of moments.
I walk daily on the edge of collapsing on the ground
in thanks to God for every second felt
every measurement of things seen by my eyes
and every sound heard by these all too sensitive ears.
I yearn to make more expression than these written words
and to be great in my endeavour to achieve
the ability to give my words to multitudes
of souls that yearn the same
and share this great and complicated humanity with me.
What can I say when they ask me what I write?
Shall I say what I write is every measure I can muster of my passion,
and that even that is sometimes not sufficient?
The ground I walk on is made of words and I am succeptible to every emotion
amplified a thousand times louder within my patient heart.
When they ask me what I write I tell them
Poetry
and then
I try to convey that I also breathe it
that I would sleep with a pen and write on my sheets
were dreams to come that move me enough.
that I would give up the company of greater loves
to be in the sole company of whispering papers
and be a voyuer to the passion of my pen and any surface that would embrace it.
No
Poety is not word enough
for what lives and breathes after the blood of my pen has been spent.
And the many years, days, and hours that I have spent in search
is not worthy enough time to have put in
that I should be given the power
of such descriptive gifts.
So for now
I write poetry.
It is the vehicle for my written whims
and the love that keeps me living.
No truer love have I ever known,
but that of God
and my poetry.

You could hurt me with your bare hands. You could hurt me using the sharp edge of what you say. JEWEL

No one ever captured it quite this well. Felt deeply. I love your writing; this was spellbinding in that each line lead to the other with a need to hear more and have you tell me how I feel.... whoa!

Bravo! Jen, this is a powerful testimony of what poetry is to you. Very very well expressed. I wish I had half the passion...

Temptress, this is truly a wonderful write, poetry or the imagery through words, the music of the heart to be shared by another, souls every desire, emotion, the tears of heartache, the love of a moment, beauties echoing reflection through the eyes, off the inner soul to the blood of pen and words. You have captured and told of but a few moments, you have shared an insight, a gift from self and for that I thank you.
May we all write poetry forever.
I vote with pleasure.

Sincerely
Rick

I honestly don't believe I ever read anything with SO MUCH THOUGHT!!!!  Not only the thought(and obviosly intense passion) of your mind but that invoked in my own. I say this because I've never read a poem of this particular persuasion before.  A poem inside of a poem about poetry...soooo creative and so sincere...I voted for it...as should others

J.H.

Be it in the truest form, or a desperate lack thereof, fail not to understand that the inspiration is love.

I'm not even sure where to begin ....
I'm flooded with thougths and emotions.

Profound? Yes!
Aesthetic? Yes!
Simply Perfect? Yes!

Poetry? YES!

They'd be crazy not to put this in the book.
You've got my vote, twice if I could!
