Walls I've learned that open arms are the most fragile of all when you've spent your life dreaming of Mr. Right and to no surprise, he is fate-slapped as Mr. Wrong in an overplayed song of having to settle for less though still secretly thumbing through the fairytale want ads. I despise the fools who walk hand in hand, I crave their kiss, their bliss, their selfish display, for, I hate that I am not she or them or they, I mourn, I cringe, I loathe the luck they have, vile - you cunning cupid, you trickster, succeed, with all this talk of love you slight to see that I'm alone. And, I hate, I hate, I hate these walls that my arms have built to close, red stop sign, do not enter, I will hurt you before you slip through my vulnerability. Sardonic stance of dare, I lay the cards out on the table and win the game before we even start, you stand no chance, no tryst, romance, I fold for the prince, not the joker. Pity, you thought that you could hook, line and 'sink her,' but, in my smart stupidity, I'm not biting. Just once, I'd like to try on sighs for size to put on a man's lips like pants and dance around, naked, though fully clothed in peace, release delving smooth, hot sun into his sky wings. I'm sure that you've heard it all before as I stand in a line with thousands of others still searching, collegues, judging eyes, I beg your pardon, my apologies for this redundant remorse, my dime a dozen drudgery, brand me with the dunce cap of trite. Wise men always say "if you want your broken heart to be fixed you must give him all the pieces," but, I'm not willing, I'm terrified, I defeat myself, and doom this plea, cursing him for failing the test that even I don't have the correct answers to. Hope still has light, but, I close the curtains, I want to drown in the darkness and sweep the remnants of foresight under the bed. Brick walls, steel walls and concrete, thick skin sewn, conceal the shadows of my tears, layer of layer, intricately stacked on disappointment, fears in the shelter of stone. Sad, no man has yet to break through. By Melissa P. Long-Monette [This message has been edited by Honeybee (03-30-2003 12:14 AM).] |

Oh dear, You are GOOD!!!. I have soo much to say about this poem that I am speechless in front of it. Just remembering a song I heard tonight on the radio.... "Sledge Hammer" by Steve Windwood. But that might not work These walls cannot be broken, By the hammer of persistance, But by the equalled force Of another Wall's existance. And I know how you feel when you look a lovers in the park and hate..... not them but merely the fact that you are not connected to someone in that blissful way. It will come. I have written too much already.... voting.... and hoping you get to write your own "soulmate" poetry soon... Sherry email me.... Cherish the good memories of the past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow. But above all... be kind to yourself today. |

Now, Honeybee, here this hopeless romantic, who is madly in love, was all ready to write a really good reply about how much the wait is worth, but......... after reading your replies from others, I don't know if this is how you really feel, or if it is your amazing talent at work. So....... I'll just go to vote...... Hugs, Ethel |

(big hugggsssssss) I too have yet for any woman to come and take my hand, and it can be so hard not to envy those around you who have what they were looking for, but also know everyone went through the same footsteps as you and even when some people fall in love before others, patience is what makes the strongest love and truly there are no real walls surrounding you, it's only just gravity! (sigh) This is powerful, sweet friend, you have my vote as you express such honest emotion, fear not, love always finds a way, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Melissa, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Superbly done. I love the line, "I'd like to try on sighs for size." An excellent example of wordplay. Thank you. What light through yon window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. |

I can see that you've been growing, and refining your voice. . . this is excellent and deserves a place in the book. . . don't be a stranger, eh??? ------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. With such a knowledgeable and understanding heart, a man, the right man, would be fortunate to have this kind of woman to share lives with. Very instructive. Very well done. |

Melissa, You have to at least come back and put your vote in for your own poem. It improves your chances of being in the book. After all I can only vote once...BUMP. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Mel, Gosh I've missed your work SO MUCH!! I found myself reading this poem over and over again, and though I'm happily with someone, I sure do know the feelings of longing and want you describe here, as well as putting walls up in order not to get hurt! All I can tell you is hang in there. You WILL find happiness and love. I hope you are well. Write me sometime. Take care. Amy P.S. You got my vote girlie! "love is like a butterfly-- |

missy, I've read both of your poems submitted for the book and? this is the one I choose to vote for. "Pity, you thought that you could hook, line and 'sink her,' but, in my smart stupidity, I'm not biting." what a cool line! This is a raw pour of emotions, and I enjoyed your wordplay, wit and metaphors. But? it's time to kick down those walls, dont'cha think? chels~ |

Well, I'm not sure what I can say .... I'm left with out words. I found my self holding my breath as I read and I was left feeling .... anxious and sad. Your words captured a tremendous amount of feelings and emotions. Excellent! ~Sheri |

Dear Honeybee, the walls will not hide you from love and Mr Right, when the time is correct, when you are ready, everything will come to be; how do any of us know right without trying the wrong, life has given us choice, and you chances to try and try again, life is too lonely to not keep seeking love, Good luck. I enjoyed this read greatly, you have my vote for the talent you have displayed to us here, thank you. Sincerely Rick |

WOW You know, I love your writing. I just wish I could be around more to read it. This shows stubborness fighting another stubborness inside of us. Love it. You could hurt me with your bare hands. You could hurt me using the sharp edge of what you say. JEWEL |
