I didn't tell you..
because I couldn't find the words

        ...about the baby birds
who flutter their wings inside my breast
        when you hold my head
                           and let it rest
       against your heart.

Ahhh, Nancy...  tenderness as only you know how to convey.  I love the "baby birds" image.  You have my vote -- the world needs so much more of THIS!  ...especially in these times...

Well I must admit that there is much to enjoy at this site.  I am a new here and, so far, have seen a wonderful variety of poetic expressions.  These lines of yours are subtle, soft and appealing.  The intimate bond of which you speak so eloquently can truly bring out the "flutter" in us all.  I enjoyed your words.  And thank you for responding to my very first post and making me feel welcome.
