There were flames in the sky
    the weather was off
even July can be cold
--
    {we were use to hearing the trains;
their horns echoing the town}

          its all so tangled

In the morning you   wake
     from  languid nights
pockets full of shells,
shifting sand through fingers
rubbing, at the same time,
   stones

He left flowers in my name;
   orchid
s,  white and full of dew
as if a smile could change    the mountains
we have left to embark    upon

the canvas, the work of art-- {laughing}
    blue eludes  white on white
only the rain    can make me feel this
   way

I close my eyes
     shadows of color
spread   the deafness
on the    vibrant   dance floor

I say this because:
   my knees have   need for-- connection
of human warmth

In all this time
  I have learned the elegance
of life, from the shore you can see
the swells of the rising tides

The moon is    up  now
   the water will sleep
the wind will whisper
    the telling signs

    I stand,     still,     at the window
we are between
    midnight and darkness

waiting

sky is that moment

Take me where the tides start
So I can pull you into me

Poetry doesn't get much prettier than this.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Lauren,
You never cease to amaze me! Excellent write and here's my vote. BTW, "we were use to hearing the trains", use should be used. I'll always love your writing.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
