The Vow She held his baby in her arms while nestled in my hug The ripeness of her youthful form was pulling like a drug The time had come again to leave and go back to my life My stay with them was brief and chaste with husband and his wife She whispered as she always did; her voice quite soft and low The words that thrilled my heart and soul. “I’ll always love you so” I mumbled back my echoed words, I quivered while I spoke But heard instead my pledge to her, the vow I’d never broke I’d vowed I’d never find with her a time to be alone Nor seek to ever offer words to lure her for my own I stilled my sense of longing that nearly rivaled pain It comes with every heartbeat; that longing once again For we had dated for sometime, just casually and then I did the dumbest thing for me; I let her meet a friend Oh he was just as good a friend as any friend can be But never did I ever think that he’d take her from me But see, dear friend, it wasn’t just that he had come to spy But stars collided when they met, so he’s the lucky guy Their first became my godchild; I am uncle to the rest And when I come to stay with them, it’s often his request I couldn’t know so long ago this ache would stay inside But love endures in funny ways; her arms still open wide I’ve come to visit now and then these 40 years and more But when we speak or hug goodbye, my heart begins to roar [This message has been edited by kayjay (02-22-2003 09:31 AM).] |

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Ken, I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you, sweet friend, it is a very difficult thing to endure and I hope now you have found a love that has forever remained attached to you as you continue to wish her happiness on her own! (sigh) This is touching, sweet friend, this needs a hanky-alert, you have my vote, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ken, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

KayJay: A wonderful frank poem about the aches that we all to often feel in our hearts. This is quite a brave poem that tells it like it is without any of the cheeky diplomacy. Great job. This has my vote as well as passage into my library! "If history is to change, let it change. If the world is to be destroyed, so be it. If my fate is to die, I must simply laugh" |

Ken, this is beautiful, though sad. I love the way you rhyme. It's so pretty...I certainly hope that it gets in the book... "Love makes the world go around" ~with love and hugs from Ethel GG~ [This message has been edited by garysgirl (02-21-2003 02:46 AM).] |

For Fractal and Ethel, your words make me blush. But matters of heartsore just make me gush. I'm lucky in love, at least I am feeling the onerous process of life's gentle healing You are both most kind. Thank you Ken Through rubble and trouble and dark of night |

This is a killer poem, Kayjay. It really lays the groundwork for some deep pangs of yearn. You wrote the verses very well. I'm sure all the women will be sighing and patting their chests with the sudden warmth. Very well done. I hope it isn't an autobiography. |
