                . . . at bay


               I sit
               teetering on the edge
               about to pass out
               staring blankly at the Times puzzle

               I begin to rock slightly
               to the beat of the quiet clock’s tick
               as the pen in my hand
               falls to the floor

               This is where alone and lonely
               find common ground

               I barely keep sleep at bay
               in the vain hope
               that some freedom can be found
               in this silence

Sometimes the silence tends to scream at you and you wrote it well. I am sorry to say I have also known that union of lonely and alone often times, but then any choice has its consequence.

May a handshake, smile, kiss or a hug be the best present you give or receive this year.

I like this. I think I could have slept longer this morning, but had to get up to get ready for a doctor's appointment..... Ugh...I hate going to the doctor....
