"Oblivion is YOUR reward!" laughed the brother of the witch. Pounding drum and cleaving sword he danced amid the fire's itch. He drew a circle round the flame and his eyes sparked with the sand-- he drew the boundaries of game and laughed a brownies reprimand: "Take my eyes, they not see YOU." He spun a web of spiderlace. "Take the ribbons of her grace." He played baton in streaks of blue. Leather boots, entwined to thigh-- the fire danced within his eye-- A vest of something once alive graced fur upon his hairlessness. Quicksilver dripped and made the crease dimpled in a smile's release-- madness in the white of eye within a corner vision spied... dust amid the dance of feet tea leaves trace a grit on teeth-- from smiling much too wide. "FOOL" He pointed to no one... laughing watching every one drop their head avoiding gaze-- "Fool!" he cried, "can't be forgave!" Then with his shovel he dug grave-- he bowed his head a madman prayed: "May the Greenman be her keep-- In Rowan roots of sorrow sleep-- May Hecate be her slave-- Virgin Mother Crone engraved-- soldiers enlist from the deep-- and drop her lids, I pray, she sleep before she feels the fire." He took charcoal then from the flame and placed it sacred censure's trust. He danced and swang and smudged desire naked flagrency of lust. Then within the red of burst locusts crawled from his dark mane-- spittle danced in a gross glee as he fell onto his knees bloodying the battlefield. In the sand he drew the fish... he muttered, "more have died for this" He wept to watch them. He took blame-- He knew. He'd lost. He cried the name-- the Sacred name that he'd been taught-- she sang to him, as fishes caught on a string in crystal stream-- he heard her humming in his dream and rocked he swayed he rocked he swayed-- then, he heard her scream. "NOOOOOO..." They held him back by spear. No more. No more. The burning years... [This message has been edited by serenity blaze (12-27-2002 05:33 AM).] |

her crime...? om my goddess, don't get me started... her crime.. let's see..we can start, with WOMEN being original healers..yes people..women as gatherers--men--hunters. and it seems to me? It was most likely a WOMAN who figured out, that if you replant the head of wheat in the field? DUH? IT WILL GROW THERE AGAIN.--thus the birth of agriculture. It also occurred to me that most medicinals are herbally inclined--who better would have discovered such than the gatherers of seed? Hmmm? tapping toe here...thus the birth of medicine. and YES. There was a definite, absolute and if you check historically an inquisition, against women--starting with Roman rule that all physicians must be state licensed. Like all laws, sounds good, starting out, until you realized, that most women, who practiced herbal medicine, which was the ALL of the pharmaceuticals then, let's face it--and check with Greek history too--I am an anthropology buff-- Did I mention women were not allowed to leave the house, much less, attend university? THUS, creating pariahs of women outside of the law...women with knowledge? sorry people but it's true became threat. and they were inquisitioned worst than most. This very same thing goes on in the Middle East Today too. (Never said it was our business, just pointing that out) smile. Realize how recently WE women, as American citizens were allowed to vote. It seems distant. Sure. But not so very that I can forget. but I guess by my reply, you got the intent, yes? HUGS to you. without veils. While you're at it Karen let's not forget religions role in holding women back. Most ancient religions had many female dieties and most of them the most beloved. The mother goddesses, givers of life and tenders of earth. It wasn't until the advent of monotheism that respect for women and their roles were silenced. I'm not sure most people know this but originally the bible contained a male and female god. The female god was so adored and worshipped that the men of power and the priests of the male temples erased almost all mention of her and replaced her temples with a the new Monotheistic god. Also in roman catholicism the mislabeled Mary Magdalene, the whore. Well actually NOWHERE in the bible does it say she was a whore. I had to edit this for fear of the zealots riot, If you ask I'll tell you the tale of Mary but not here. [This message has been edited by Aenimal (12-27-2002 12:27 PM).] |

There are many instances of re-naming of Goddess temples that I can give you from the old testament. and by the way, Raph? although most just call me "witch"--I do not consider myself "wiccan"--but I was initiated as "solitary eclectic". smile with me? I simply refuse to believe that ANYTHING is untrue--the true language is symbolic... The archetype resonates..collective unconscious, and WE produce the reality. ![]() |

Oh there have been countless re-namings in fact most of the saints of catholocism were renamed deities to appease the locals and ease the new religion into the populace. My point was just to let people know on how many levels women are chastized. Socially, economically and even religiously. By the way I wasn't talking about a simple renaming of a goddess, but changing the face of an entire religion to suit male dominance. The bible was not originally Monotheistic and there is a quote which still remains though I must find again in which it clearly states that god is not alone. Just helping the cause K.. |

Oh wow, Karen... I'd been doing research for a history paper, and ineveitabely (sp?) I was found in the section of the library where all the medival witchcraft books were. The way those people were treated then, and STILL are treated is, to me... erg I'm not even going to go into it. The picture you painted with this is still in my mind |
