She sat at the end of the aisle in a chair alone without sound stared straight ahead at the man that lay dead and as the Pastor sermoned she was within herself determined to maintain her cold hearted style The best words of him were spoken it was a standing room only crowd promises of a better place laid tears upon the face some sincere, some a mere, token posturing, t'would make Hollywood proud Softly she heard a voice from behind familiar to her the whisper in her ear "So glad you came, I've missed you " she turned her head only to find others in the pews behind her no one was very near She waited til all had had their view she was the last to walk to the man Once again the whisper from behind from the voice she knew this time softly the speaking once again... began "So glad you came, I've missed you each night I've said the calling I searched for you in the stars in the sunshine and in the rain I've given to you my alling here you are near, my dear I'm so glad you came" "Are you OK Miss ?" she heard the Usher say suddenly the tears were falling from her eyes they came calling as the Usher took her hand and quietly led her...away In the limo, she stared out the window in total grievance and disbelief Surmised to herself she was loosing her mind and for a brief moments time she began to reminisce lay aside her grief She thought of his smile the "Ut-Oh's, and " hello there's" of making him the banana bread the love in her bed sweet nothings he'd said all of the moments they'd shared The driver of the limo now lowered the center window and asked "Miss, do you have any request?" "We'll be there before long, would you like some song, anything I can do for you?" he turned the vehicle to sunset west "Yes, she replied please turn the radio on" and the chilling song came through at once ~ If I could, then I would~ ~I'd take you everywhere I go~ ~ So glad you came, I've missed you each night I've said the calling I searched for you in the stars in the sunshine and in the rain I've given to you my alling here you are near, my dear I'm so glad you came~ She couldn't believe what she heard this was so absurd, As the song ended with final word the D.J. now broke in to say "That was the number one with a bullet, song of the day, "So Glad You Came, I've Missed You" and on a sad note I've just been informed the author has passed away" Once again as she looked at the hearse in front of the line this time she heard the whispered words "So glad you came...I've missed you" Copyright © 2001 Dennis Hicks [This message has been edited by dhicks03 (12-28-2002 04:09 AM).] |
