I was looking at the poetry,
I've written through the years.
Some of it caused me to smile,
And some brought me to tears...

I asked myself, "Why bother?
It's such a waste of time.
And who would take the trouble-
To read these words of mine?"

The dreams of youth are fleeting-
Old age is coming fast.
And foolish is the person,
Still living in their past.

Why do I keep on writing,
Of a time that's now long past-
When every time a gate swung wide,
I knew could be my last?

And every girl I chanced to meet-
I pictured as a queen,
With love, as in the wanderlust...
The next hill's still more green.

I think my words are failing me,
I've nothing left to say.
I search for inspiration,
But it all just fades away.

So now I take my quill in hand-
To write one more short note...
And as Hank Williams used to say-
I guess that's all she wrote.

I love to read your poems. I try to reply to
everybody's poems that I read, but
sometimes just don't get to. Don't stop writing.
I'm sure a lot of other people read your poems, too.
