"Coo", "Coo", "Cooing"
Upon my morning roof
The "cooing" of a single dove
unknown, yet all the truth

Unknown to me, that is to say
but in each "coo" a note
whose sound seems so familiar
As in a poem the 'poet' wrote

And as I careful listen
each sensuous, subtle cry
I began to know the "coo"; (it's true!)
Do poets ever lie?

My heart caught fast on her lament
I recognized the truth
Could it be the lost in love
there singing on my roof?

Perhaps it were my lonely heart
breaking, yet again
worse, would she dare reveal
the silence of my sin

Amazing how she knew so well
secrets, harbored fast
their tattered moorings loosed
adrift into the past

Turn the page, pray the last
mourning of the dove
Fell silent as Septembers' dew
And so have you, my love.

Now, tell us how you feel
when the lonely hoot of the owl
comes home to your heart...

I am SO enjoying seeing your poetry...

Sunshine!  The "hoot owl"?!  Hmmmm...let me work on that, as there are no sudden inspirations.

Thanks for your caring, sincere comments.  I can feel the warmth of your character!

Hugs,
Robert

A dove
Coos on your roof--
Though I've no right to talk,
I could help you; on my roof there's
A hawk....

Heh-heh -- a good read, no matter what I do to it afterwards.......... thanks for sharing!

Nancy,  I treasure your comments.  That doves mate for life was unknown to me at the time of the writing.  I've since learned, and as a result, have often wondered if the poor dove might, indeed, have lost its mate.  My son and I used to sit on the back porch and mimic her song.  We've since moved from the house, but the memory endures.

Forever.  I bet you they fight!

Robert, my Love and I hear what the birds are saying to us. I think they convey messages back and forth when he and I are apart from each other.....

Ironically, there actually is a hawk that lands at my place -- wife feeds the little birdies....all sweet.....and all of a sudden the party's OVER cuz a kestrel just swooped down onto the wall..... You wouldn't believe how fast sparrows can fly with their eyes closed and a beak full of bread crumbs!
