This was inspired by the movie "Harrison's Flowers" Freedom’s Bell I watched a movie today War was depicted in the most heinous way I cried bloody tears for wounded and dead Their image forever burned in my head Logic doesn’t come close to answering why The question eludes no matter how one might try What do we fight for? Is it to free the encumbered and poor? War is all right But don’t hit your brother Bloodshed in the name of religion necessary But don’t disobey mother Does one say nightly prayers with weapon at their side? Will there be a day when hearts tears have dried? Or will they suffer an eternity of their own part replayed? With each memory, mind fragmented and frayed? I agonize over a world so confused A peaceful solution so quickly refused I love my country and have served it well But selfishly don’t want my sons blood to ring freedoms bell |

Neither do I, my son, nor my three grandsons. Thank you for not slurring the United States of America or our President by stating your feelings of wanting peace. I appreciate an honest hope, in spite of the unloving world we live in. I salute your ability of stating how you feel, plainly without blame. Hugs and love, Pat ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |
