Frame of Mind

I've been dusting off the old,
preparing for the new.
My secretary holding all the cards for
Father's Day and Birthdays and Anniversaries.
All handpicked, some never to be used again.
Spent the hour placing them in order...
should have done it long ago.
But something inside, just wouldn't let me until today.

I've gone through them before, during holidays
hoping that I could use a few.
I could sell the others in a yard sale,
but my heart won't let me.

Next to the secretary is a wooden box,
holding all my photos. I had promised myself for years,
I would arrange them in a collage on my walls.
I even have the large frames hanging,
with pictures of families I don't even know.

This box holds all my past.
Weddings, birthdays, anniversaries
births, and even funerals.

I can't control the tears as I look through them,
wondering why I will never see these events,
as they once were to me.
Future pictures will be minus those,
who were so important  in my life.

I tried to pick out some to place in those hanging frames,
from those of my parents holding me as a baby,
to those of them holding their grandchildren,
to that of my father, looking pencil thin before his death.

From those of my wedding to those of family gatherings,
where instead of a couple, I will be seen as one.
I won't hide my past, it is all I have for now.
And on my walls I will be able to see everyone,
who has had meaning in my life.

I had to start sometime, and today
seemed like a good time to me.

It isn't easy to sort through our memories and try to find a special place for them.
I think the hardest part is knowing where to start.

Kind of happy sad here Maureen!

hugs you~

You have spurred me on to delve into my own bittersweet task of doing the same thing!
I was with you right through to the end!

Warm hugs,
