Tanach

My hands read the grain
Of the embossed black leather
Far better
Than my eyes could convey
The arcane language
And ancient knowledge
That is contained within

Oh! Accusatory tome!

The gravity of this
Personification of promise
Leant as oppressive
As any opprobrious burden

And should have decided

Not to consign this book of Truth
To one, that will not utter it

To one, that has read it
Studied, queried and pondered it
And looked past the message

To one that can quote you
Chapter and verse

And yet
Has learned nothing from it

That this innocent Volume
Acquired in adoration

Not be received with disdain

But, be withheld in indignation
And delivered into the fiery ark
Of my winters’ hearth

That the collected pages
An augury of sages
With the weight of ages

Would slip free of my hand
And settle…
Nestle
Into a bed of red ember

Fated to illuminate
Only the dark walls
Of this poor shack

But does it warm you or is the burning symbolic?

Powerful throughout but the closing verse aching and critical

I didn't burn mine but it definitely got thrown across the room many times when I realized the Jews HAD to ask for water in the desert. What kind of God was that, I wanted to know. Why should one, if loved by Him ever have to ask and it seemed, beg for water..

I wondered.....

Ed, I wonder the same as Sharon...did you really burn it, or is that symbolic?

Anyway, I read and studied The Word for many years....still do at times. I can say that I've read it through completely about four times, and can quote many verses.....but, still don't understand all of it. It tells us plainly, though, that if we knew all things on this earth, our mind's would not comprehend...Right?

Ed, I love this. It really made me think.....

Hugs,
Ethel..

Beautiful...Enjoyed this much more then you can know Ed. *wink* I'm sending you this link so that maybe and I mean MAYBE you can learn something about Tanach.

It's a shame to destroy G-ds word just because you can't seem to understand it.

No, this Book was not burned..Merely sent on, to be received with...disdain.

Well?...I know about Truth and I know about Love...Yanno?

Thanks folks, for the reads and comments!

I see you've found a way to read and stay warm at the same time. All kidding aside, this write has many layers, not all of them warming.
To know both truth and love requires an active attentive mind and an involved compassionate heart. You have both.
