We say goodnight...leaning close,
the space between us -
as intimate as the touch
to come.

Our eyes make love
hesitant -
as if they hardly believe
in the truce of a
glance.

And then our fingers reacquaint themselves
to the softness of another.

Our lips touch...pause...and remember.
They have prayed along these lines
