Reflections of Time

By Peter J Marcroft
Across the eons, and through the mists of time I have travelled,
A nameless, ageless warrior from far beyond the past,
And throughout my journey I have forever pondered,
Can the race called man forever last?

A dissatisified species, addicted to the thrills and chaos of war,
Joyous at the sight of dead babies and slaved land,
Always more bloodshed, inexplicable, what are they fighting for?
To an entity like me, it is a sight, that makes you so saddened

I Journey to the future, what lies beyond?
Will the image shift?A dawn of creation?
No, the image is still the same, one man who plays god
Over the human enemy that belong to another nation

I am an outsider and my time here is over,
Humans are so intelligent that they are fools,
They scramble at everything, like a child after a four leaf clover,
Treating their coveted goods as valuable as jewels

I cannot interfere, that is not my call,
All I can do is to mutate and evolve
With this race, and climb life's wall,
Forever hoping, the path of war shall resolve.

Perhaps such a time traveler could impart some of that reflection into a species in need of wisdom..  Interesting write, PJM...

My favorite verse (though I believe in the first line of this the 'no' should be 'not')
Beautiful and well written!  Great job!

I am so pleased that many of you are impressed with this, I am also thankful to the person who pointed out the mistake in the final verse.

I hope that I am able to write more soon
