If I close my eyes No one can see me In my new disguise Invisible To those who kill If I close my eyes. If I close my ears All bad will vanish Evil disappears. No words of hate Will be aimed at me If I close my ears. If I close my mind There is no terror Mankind loves mankind No one will do Me any harm if I Just close my mind. But love beads don't stop terrorists No poem stops rocket's glare And I won't stop atrocities With flowers in my hair. If I close my eyes No buildings fall From airplanes in the skies. The future will be peace and light If I close my eyes. [This message has been edited by Balladeer (02-05-2003 03:31 PM).] |

I guess there is always hope...but yes I lived through those times and they didn't help one bit. They were just an excuse for "flower children" to party while their brothers fought and died. As always, nicely done M |

And that is the last thing we should do. I don't condone war, nor do I wish for evil to take over. Our country has seemingly always stood for Right, and I cannot see the right in terrorism, injustice, nor the atrocities that plague so many cultures. If we could live, and let live, then we wouldn't have to close our eyes...and all could live as they wish. But that is not the case. Our men and women are deploying right now, and most of them, if not all, believe that what they are doing at their government's behest is what is right for our nation, and hopefully, for many other parts of the world. I don't like war. But I don't like terrorists, either. Eyes wide open, here. I only wish I could report for duty. |

(big hugggsssssss) Indeed not one of us can stop such inevitable terror alone, and that is why we must all unite together to fight against the war, for if you just sit back and pretend everything isn't happening it is as though you've become faithless and already gone! (sad sigh) So I beseech you, submit this powerful poem to http://poetsagainstthewar.org/ ......and let the message be proclaimed loud and clear, for certianly not you alone or I alone or anyone alone can stop it, but to be part of the commisserating circle is what's most important, this is powerful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Balladeer, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." Michael, my eyes are wide open, too. I'm well aware of what's going on, because I have a nephew in the Marines. I'm sure lots more here also have their eyes open for their loved ones. . In fact, every single person who is going to be involved in the combat part of the war has someone who loves them, I'm sure. And our combat started when the terrorists came to our country, as far as I'm concerned. . My heart goes out to each one of those who are going to get the worse end of the whole deal....the world over, in fact. . . Yes, my eyes are wide open, even though I do find a little bit of release from worry through reading and writimg poetry... . . Thank you for writing this, Michael... its too bad, I like keeping my eyes closed and trying to sleep! But after we change ourselves, we can still make a difference in the world, and that certainly isn't done with eyes shut. Enjoyed Always, Alyssa - And so it was that time stood still - |

Maureen...Yes, I remember, too. Used to see the flower child footage on AFRTS (Armed Forces Radio&Television Service)...made me feel real good. Thanks for reading.. Sunshine...yes, I agree. Every decent person hates war and it's very frustrating to have to consider it necessary. One would always prefer a peaceful road... SEA...not an option for anyone, I think. Great to see your name!! jellybeans...how wonderful it would be if the world could close its eyes in safety...on the other hand you OPEN my eyes! Noah..I thank you, my friend, but I doubt this is what they want to hear. Thanks for reading... Dixie....don't bump your head! Toerag...yes, we do, my friend. We both know so well the hardship of war...and we would both fight again if called upon. Joyce...you are so right. Inaction is bad - blind action is tragic. Thank you... Ethel...very true, my friend. I think it began with the attack in Yemen and, had we declard war on terrorism then, perhaps there would not have been a 9/11. All we can do is try to make sure there is not another one....and, yes, poetry is very good for just that..a little escape and comfort from the heaviness of life.. abbe...no, it never does. Nice to see you... Nancy...no, some things just won't go away, will they? Toerag is a perfect example... suthern...you can always close your eyes safely with me....thanks for the sweet amen.. Ron...I doubt that I would EVER be able to say anything better than you but thanks for the kindness.. Alyssa...how right you are! We change the world with eyes wide open and faith in knowing that what we do is right. Thank you for the thoughts.. |

Oh Michael, what a wonderful and touching write this is. I wish we could all close our eyes, sprinkle faery dust and wish on a star. What dreams we could have. I loved this ... huggles, Marti 'I will endure the darkness for it shows me the stars.' |

A poignant write Michael. Beautifully captured, in a thought provoking and eye-opening style that only you could do, sweet poet. Excellent flow of thought from beginning to end, bringing the point home loud and clear. Always my pleasure to read you ... but ... you know that. Best wishes and hugs, /Kit |

If only we could.... My heart is with all you people and those who are called to active duty and all people who will suffer if there is to be a war. May they all come home safely. You've touched my heart Deer, great poem. The Dutchie Like scattered leaves...my words will flow |

My goodness you stirred more comment on your subject than any I've seen here. It is a nicely written piece...and reminds me of the song "Last night I had the strangest dream I'd ever had before. I dreamed the world had all agreed to put an end to war." It won't happen in my life time, but the lure of no war is fascinating. Again, thanks for the write. Adding another Amen... thank you for this Michael. |

Amen. Sadly, sometimes war is inevitable. No sane person wants it to be that way. As I see it, Saddam is the only one with the power to stop it now. My heartfelt thanks to you and Toe and all the others who fought in the past and to those who gave their lives for us and for those who are doing so now and preparing to do so. Very well expressed, Michael. |
