Embarrassed, with my buttocks, bare,
exposing all my faults to see.
Yet, you find pleasure in the view.
How very odd that seems to me.

This fig leaf, like an ancient thong,
lends privacy to humble ways,
though hints of what there lies beneath,
is sometimes seen on cloudless days.

None of us are impervious.
I’m growing  old, I’m chipped and cracked.
Friends use my shoulders to find rest.
Companionship, I’ve never lacked.

I do not need a pedestal.
God carved me to stand on my own.
For many years I’ve faced the sea.
Now weathered, has my marble grown.

OK, so no pedestal. But can I stick your smiling face on a postcard?

Good to see you today, Michael.

Michael, this is wonderful, and if you're chipped and cracked, it certainly doesn't show in your writing!! I loved this one, and it's descriptiveness!!

A truly happy person is one who
can enjoy the scenery on a detour!

Hi Michael

Good to see your smiling face.
Yeah, I could kind of tell that you have no lack
of companionship...how could someone who is as
lovable and sweet as you. Your have a very kind
heart, friend, and it shows in your poetry and your
replies to the rest of us.
But, being put on a pedestal is hard, isn't it?
It's hard to live up to the expectations from others
who put you up there, isn't it?

By the way, I like that first verse of your poem...lol
It was cute the way you wrote that. Brought a
smile to my face...

Hugs from

Michael,

Don't know any poet who can resist writing about the 'moon'...one way or the other....smiling here.

Carved in rock, weathered....that's the best...that is when the true beauty begins.....glad it is within you....you give so much back....BTW, I checked out your paintings..love 'em...ships and the sea...mmmmmmmm....
beautiful, such talent, enjoy your poetry and paintings....God's blessings and hope you are doing okay.

Take care, hugs Pat

As Pat said, the true beauty shows in the weathered stone. Keep your humble heart, and be assured of the beauty of yourself and the great friend you are to have others at your shoulder

Oh and be glad its because of pride they put you on a pedestal. ..At one time my sister locked me to a table, pulled down my pants, wrote MOON ME on my buttocks, opened the door (which the table was by) ..left it open and left.
Ah ..love *cough* ..memories!

Always, Alyssa

Michael,
You made my heart smile with the posterior of the situation. Excellent image for the truly down to earth, and honest.
I agree, no pedestal needed...you already stand tall enough. Smiles from ThisDiamond

Noah,
You're making me blush. LOL!  Thank you, my friend.

Earth Angel,
What a nice thing to say, thank you!

Toerag,
How did you know I was a lard butt?  LOL!  Okay, you keep the pedestal, I'm stepping down.

Kacy,
Only if you stick your own on one first.  Nice to see you and thanks!

Nancy,
Thanks and hugs!

Sunny,
Yep, chips and cracks all over the place, but thanks for liking this one. Hugs

Ethel,
Nice to know I can bring you a smile.  That's always a nice feeling for me.  Thank you!

Susan,
Hey, you, my britches are UP, I promise!  LOL!  And you're much too sweet, I know I stand in the masses, let Toerag have the pedestal.   Hugs

loner,
Thank you and hope you are well.

Martie,
I love our friendship, you accept all my faults and still stand beside me always.  Thank you!  Hugs

Pat,
I kinda like the moon.  OOPS!  I mean I like the moon, but NOT mooning.  Does that sound better, or am I just sticking my foot deeper in my mouth? LOL!  Hey, I much appreciate the kind words about my artwork.  I never took lessons, so when someone admires my work it always means a lot to me.  Thank you!

Alyssa,
Maybe your sister was just out of writing paper? LOL!  Hey, thanks for responding.

Dixie,
Thank you, my friend.

Maureen,
Smiles are always nice, so keep doing it. Thank you, it's always nice seeing you here.

ThisDiamond,
What a very sincere compliment.  You just me a smile from ear to ear.  Thank you, dearly.

Carol, funny is cool.   Just happy knowing you enjoyed it.  By the way, welcome to our family here at Passions.

Please get back on that pedestal for a moment while I place this laurel wreath upon your weathered brow! (It's my way of saying thanks for writing such an enjoyable and enlightening poem. Its sincere tone overlaid with slight -though appropriate- hints of tongue-in-cheek and the simple, strong images made it an enjoyable read for me. I particularly liked the final stanza and its philosophical relevance to the poem's title and theme.)

I look forward to reading more of your work.
