she closes her eyes
and sees only her lover's,
she sleeps with a stranger
tho her heart is bound
to another,
offered some consolation,
on nights when
moonlight scatters
through the window,
some poetic diversion
temporarily soothing her aching soul,
realization comes soon enough though,
on nights that she cannot dream him,
as she feels the cruel smack of emptiness
and eternal damnation, without any resolve,
the dreaded feeling washes over her,
that she now lives a lie, or at best
a half-truth,
going through motions, with deadened emotions,
living for everyone but her,
destined for eternal circlechasing,
doomed for selfdoubts,
stopping herself short of the golden finish line,
mostly though right now, at 3am
as the toss and the turn fill the sleep hours,
she consumes herself with wonder
of how and when,
this ever became
her story

Hard to say why the cold comes, But I must say the golden finish line is always in your sight. A great line, among many.

Michelle, this touched my heart. It is very sad, to me, for someone to just "go through the motions" and not really feel what they are doing.

I often try to pinpoint, the precise moment that everything turned, where everything went wrong and have found it to be a waste of time that is better spent recovering from it instead.
