What of the rays the cut incisively as ice floes melt on arctic horizons and local fisherman enjoy their catch does it matter if the tide is the highest here? Does it matter how far the foamed crests reach the extent of cove where currents transport salty kisses what of those refracted northern rays off trawlers, off ice floes, off fresh catches whaleboats idle, their harpooned carcasses glistening ... does it matter that tides, the highest here Ungava Bay..a local inlet that you could run for meters befire it sweeps up to your ankles surrounding them with its frothy charm. while the locals enjoy their catch and life and time go on, but it is not laden with urban haste, of you, city dweller who comes to whale spot and apply your values on arctic lifestyles where the women would chew the animal hides with their teeth and you would whiten yours with a ring of protection. does it matter that unpopular lifestyles Ungava Bay inlet ones..head towards extinction while your curiosity is sated on hugh whale catches suppose that's the road we've taken until we find ourselves, backs to the sea until the salty oceans evaporate and you and I become atoms dispersed into a greater star-lit ocean... guess we couldn't leave the locals tend to their age old ways appreciated the rise of brief summer rays we have to desecrate old world habitats..one after the next. in this case..even some of the most inhospitable and chillingly remote... Love this, but then you probably guessed as much. Go away, "civilization" and leave the indigenous peoples alone. |

There is an element of imagination to write poems with a 'social message' and I do know that small fishing communities of the north are being squeezed out of existance, as the young are drawn to larger communities, as the health system is never quite adequate to handle emergencies, that the death rate here is higher than in the rest of Canada, that there has been a lot of abuse...I have never lived in the far north but I have met people who have filmed there have visited a social center and met native people face to face across Canada. There is no guessing, I'm afraid. |

I like to add atmosphere in my narratives..and the narrative could go on but this is enough for the statement I wanted to make welcome to Piptalk and hope to read your work too. |
