I hung my scuffed, old saddle- From a joist out in the shed. And told myself, Hey, cowboy- Better quit while you're ahead. That rodeo has taken- A lot more than it gave, If you keep going down the road, You'll fill an early grave. These arthiritic elbows- And badly twisted knees... Bring me close to crying, Every norther, snow, or freeze. I broke my back six years ago, And it still gives me heck- If I keep going down the road, I'll break my foolish neck. I won my share of buckles- They're mighty hard to eat... And every record that I set- Some youngster's gone and beat. My wife got tired of watching, Me missing out, or throwed... And said, I'm leaving, if you keep On going down the road. There's no fool, like an old one, And that's what you've become. To ride the broncs, and brahma bulls, You must be young, or dumb! Next birthday I'll turn fifty... My wild oats I have sowed... I guess I finally reached the end, Of going down the road. |

I agree with Nan! whether you still live a wild cowboy crazy life up and on them bulls, you'll still always be a cowboy (and a poet) at heart. So dear sir, you've never lost it. like this'n alot. Always, Alyssa - And so it was that time stood still - |
