Basic Training (Second Thoughts)

For some reason they make
you get up way too early.
And the food isn't all that good.
And I miss my family and friends
a lot more than I ever thought I would.
In our training they keep placing an
emphasis on a potential desert attack
and they told us the classes that
graduated before us have all shipped
out for the Gulf or for Iraq.
I'm having second thoughts and I'd
like to cancel this enlistment if I didn't
need a job and I wasn't such a stud.
Really I would if I could.
Because I'm much too young
to die and I can't stand
the sight of blood.

(big hugggssssssss) I would rather be put in jail than sacrifice my clean pair of eyes for the sight of despair and shame and agony out there on the war fronts, the sight is so unbearable only I can imagine, this is powerful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet James, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

I hope your honest thoughts encourage others to do the same. However you and the situation go I hope you know many do understand and stand behind you.It took courage to post this piece,I respect you for doing so.

JLM...

I hope,
I pray,
that we will not
go where you fear;
and if we do,
I hope that I
can count on you...

I don't want you there, James,
but rather,
I would go in your place,
if they would take me.

This is not a remark
of a martyr

it's the remark
of a mother...

let me take your place, please.

We have a country to protect.

Powerful piece of work. I felt a dull aching pain with every word.

Thank you paladin, Noah, bbent, sunshine and gypsy girl for your nice remarks...
I'm not going anywhere...I already served my time...but I was recalling some of the feelings I felt or perhaps some young soldier might be feeling today...most do not want to go to war and face the possibility of dying or seeing their friends die...a situation where it is kill or be killed...they do it for a service and a sacrifice to the country they love...It is my hope that wars can be prevented through negotiations...but it takes two that are willing to negotiate...James
