as the dragon breathes

I carefully tiptoe
past the secret sacred spot
where the jade dragon breathes.
He awaits the light of humanity.
He has waited so many moons...
has nearly given up.
The fire deep within him
is cooling, getting dim.
I tiptoe carefully,
knowing that in a moment
I shall attempt
to awaken him with offers
of peace, harmony
and good will
for mankind.
I pray these gifts
will be accepted
as honorable and true.
I pray he has not read
too much of mankind's
recorded history,
I fear he may
not be
a believer.

I, the jade dragoness,
may well be bringing
the last gifts of hope.
I pray he accepts
these offerings
of love,
before the fire is
extinguished
forever.

I tremble to think of his wrath if he awakes and sees the sorry state of mankind.It is best he lie in slumber and dream of happier times.BTW you should post more of your haikus.You are very good with them.

pray supplications
will allay the fiery roar...
walk gentle
into the room...
