EA's Challenge Be A Friend - fictional

PEAKING

At last, she has reached
The peak of her being,
Feeling no older
Than she did at sixteen,
She has the blessed wisdom
Of her years.
Her earlier years
Were spent in an 'uptight' form
Of self-degrading wantonness,
Fearful of what might be,
Yet scared to be alone.
Relationships were loosely made,
Badly chosen,
She was emotionally abused,
Physically misused.
A prisoner
Of low self-esteem and hatreds,
Her worst enemy being herself,
Whom she tortured unmercifully.
It took years to break free
From the prison of negativity,
To clamber over
The walls of self neglect
And into the brightness
Of beautiful days.

From her newfound position
She was able
To take a positive,
More thoughtful, gentle
Look at herself.
It took a long time
And a spell of self-inflicted
Denial of bodily gratification's.

She caressed herself,
Body and soul, and guilt free.
She whispered endearments
Of love
To the image
In her bathroom mirror.
She changed her attitudes,
Prayed,
And grew in her own eyes
To be a number one person.

How much better she likes herself,
She can stand alone
Without the fears of loneliness.

Mid-life crisis?
No way.

She gives thanks every day
For her growth,
And the passing
Of her half century mark.

Growing older has been an escape
From her past
Into an exciting future.

Young'uns, move over
She's on her way,
FINALLY.

How different,the dark that scares us,
From the dark, behind our eyes,
That we hide behind to protect us
From the dark that scares us. ©das
