It Was A Soft Little Pink Blanket |

~* It Was Just A Small Pink Blanket *~ It really didn’t look like much, But I never saw her without it It was always in her clutch. When she was just a toddler That “blankie” was fairly big in size, But every year it was cut to fix The holes in it I do surmise. She used to poke her fingers Through to make a little hole. Playing hide and seek with herself That poor, lonely little soul. When she was scared, or all alone, And no one seemed to care, She’d cuddle that pink blanket Consoled by its just being there. I remember her like it was today, And suddenly the tears begin to flow As I feel so sad for that little girl, That was me oh so many years ago. When a child has no one to turn to, From fear there’s no pace to hide, The’ll latch onto funny things, Mine was that “blankie” by my side. ~*~ ~ The soul lies buried in ink that does not flow ~ |

Ya know - My daughter still has hers - She did have it put away - but now it's set out - as a shrine of sorts, I think... Hers is yellow, though... I still picture her - blankey in one hand - Thumb in mouth with the other.. I like this poem, Sharon.... |

Even as adults we need something to hold on to and take comfort in. I don't think the need changes all that much...except for the fact that we're not a kid anymore, therefore we don't haul our blankie everywhere we go. Love to read you Mysteria~ Thanks for this! |

(big huggsssssssss) I have a confession to make, I know these feelings all too well and having seizures and nightmares during the nights and also being woken up in the middle of the night hearing of my friend Cameron's death and my sister's near-death experience before, I like to do most of my poetry at night as I hate the dark and the traua it can bring and I mostly sleep in the mornings! (sad sigh) I also keep a dreamcatcher above my bed and a Gods eye to my corner wall to chase away evil spirits! This is owerful, sweet friend, my prayers are with all the children and I hope their teddy bears can be their friends to hug them through the tough times, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Ahhh, you all literally warmed my heart in your comments. This poem came about as I was cutting up a blanket for my cat, and remembered that blanket of mine as a child. I am so glad to hear I was not alone in this, and thank each of you in a different way, but all so much. (((hugs from me to you))) |

I loved this Sharon. So many of life's securities are wrapped up in brief remembrances of our youth. My "security blanket" was my dog, Suzie. She kept me warm, and kept my heart and secrets safe for many years. You've got me missing her this morning with this lovely and thought provoking piece. Best wishes and hugs, /Kit |

Sharon, This is so precious. I stand amazed sometimes how some of us made it through our childhoods; you hint at a not so nice one and I understand. That we can look back at those memories and find something good, warm and comforting from it, is even more amazing and says much for those who've suffered greatly. What I also find interesting is even those who had a 'normal' childhood seems to have been just as attached to a 'comforter' of some sort... My best comforter has ended up being God, but for many years the "Footsteps Prayer" annoyed me, but in time Ive leaned to see it as a truth and a comfort....for I don't need to know the 'why' anymore. And, I've pretty much figured it out, which also comforts me and gives me peace. Heart hugs to you, Pat ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |

Fabulous Sharon!! For our youngest son, it was his blue blankie, for our middle son, it was his baby quilt with trucks on it, and for our daughter, it was her invisible friend, Bob. All children need something of comfort no matter their circumstance. It's a big world out there when you're just a wee one. Hugs, Marti Most of us go to our grave |

You know your responses are incredible and it is so interesting to see that so many from all walks of life have so much in common really. It is that common need to be loved, validated and heard that takes us to an item or force that we think cares for us, and as some have said it is a "material" object and to some it is something quite unexplainable, and all are comforting. Thank you all so kindly for enjoying this piece. I tend to write from "flashbacks" most of time right in the submission area and I am so pleased you enjoy them. |

Mother had a very dear friend, who had five girls... one of whom carried her blankie until it was but a scrap... Our friend always had to wait until her daughter took a nap then quickly washed and dried it, then placed it in her lap... what a lovely memory you returned in the haunt of yours... |
