It rises at the fall
Winter’s first to the wolves call
Cast its pale light on all

He sleeps through the day,
Barely warm enough to be,
Waking to the bay,
A brother he can not see
On far off snow hill,
Calling to gather the pack
To combine to kill.
White shadows moving in black
To sate their hunger
On the weak of the herd near,
In stealth not anger
Failure is the only fear
That grips their being;
In open tundra they stand
Poised to run fleeing
Across the moon lit snow land;
They sense not the pack.

Together surround
Tired old bull hold his ground
Together brought down

First the elders sate
Beneath the zenith full moon,
Patiently young wait
The deep hunger will end soon
They tear the carcass
And devour the hard won kill
Elders watch darkness
As the young now eat their fill.
Smell the warm blood flow
See the steam rise to the sky
As the red stains snow,
The morning is drawing nigh.

Too soon comes a bear
They pack holds as long they dare
The white predator.

The wind howls with snow
And the sun barely is seen,
He curls in hollow
And dreams of days of new green,
But these times are white
The harsh lean times of the year,
Days are like the night
And the spring is far not near.
Sheets of color sky
Ripple in dancing frenzy,
Cousin bays nearby
Music in a world icy.

which the Native American peoples call the Wolf Moon.

Ooohhhh, this is great! Enjoyed every line.  I like:

"In stealth not anger." Captures them well.

Thanks for this, It is so well written; and, when I re-read  I find more and more I didn't 'see' the first time.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

Thank you, Seymour,
Always glad to please you

Thank you, Regards2you,
High praise to say something is rereadable

Thank you, Gentle Spirit,
Glad you liked

Thank you, Nakdthoughts,
Yes it was a lovely moon, just got rather busy
And didn’t get to post it promptly.
The Next full Moon is the Snow Moon
Perhaps I’ll be more timely with it.

Gloom
