Streetlights flicker to life
and eventually die
in the French quarter
the humidity
these four walls
the endless hours between them
a wasp's nest is budding
in the crest of a wave that the failing wallpaper has supplied
rats are chewing on discarded toenails
leaving trails that I do not care to follow
lonely black and white images sag on the face of postcards
hung like the crucifixion
purchase points forgotten
like ancestors who’ve yellowed with age
a role of nickels
lies close at hand
ready to embrace any lurking destitution
or its agents
the transistor radio with an awkward antenna
fizzles the appropriate slow, rusted horns
as I lie upon this filthy mattress
that covers the hole in the floorboards
of this ancient Victorian wonder
In the doorway
she leans, gleaming
her crisp wandering lust
black silk
framing her featurettes
the moon standing behind her
towering over this broken life
I offer her a patch of floor beside me,
a swig from my relief
We spend the night
planning our escape
from dreams we no longer need

I like the changes/additions. Fantastic imagery. Your camera lens is sharp and you never fail to expose a hidden story.

Loved the gritty, "smooth as sandpaper" way you wrote this one--excellent!!

This is an exceptional piece with very effective imagery to depict your thoughts... Nicely done, DM...

strong ending...and tight imagery...
I enjoyed..

'a wasp's nest is budding

There were so many great visuals, this being only one.  I don't think I've read you before, I really liked this.
