Hor Polloi* "Ring, Ring," sounds the hand-held bells of Santa-clad volunteers The hustle and bustle as consumers shell out their christmas cheer. Walking through the buzzing mall I observe not one or two, but all the common masses of people that seem to be doing the Christmas scene in this very marketable steeple I pay each store a twenty sometimes its even more for on my christmas list I have plenty its becoming quite a chore As my fellow people buy extravagant gifts I am quite enlightened by a spiritual lift what if we exchanged dollars spent decreased the gifts by a few hundred cents for what we are doing is quite wrong we should help another, as common masses of people So as I head to my new car and light a cigarette the money I used on christmas gifts becomes a strong regret For in the freezing cold that santa-clad volunteer rings reminding us that Christmas is not about materialistic things. So here I am, I plead guilty I feel stupid, shallow, and feeble For this Christmas I did nothing To help the Common Masses of People. *authors note--Hor Polloi is the latin term for "Common Masses of People" --Alana [This message has been edited by Laney (12-18-2002 09:02 PM).] |

Yes, I rememer walking into the mall with about $700 dollars in my pocket and leaving with a trunk and backseat full of phreaking Christmas cheer. But I think that the Salvation Army would do better if they didn't have Bums standing there ringing the bell. Sometimes I am afraid to go near them for fear of there grimacing stare. But I do what I can when I can, and so true that we must remember that Jesus came to save the common masses of people and we must strive to do the same. Love ya babe Jason I'm not concieted....I'm convinced |

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Alana, I couldn't agree with you more, sweet friend, I think capitalism is evil and the root to so much grief and poverty and I too feel so stupid when I buy gifts too though I have no choice it seems and think we are all brainwashed and must rebel against consumption with love! (sigh) This is excellent, sweet friend, let love be the grand consort of the hoi polloi, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Alana, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Hi Laney Apologies if I sound like a nuisance. I have enjoyed reading this poem, but I have noticed that there is a typo. Hope you forgive me for pointing it out, I think the expression is "hoi polloi" and not "hor polloi" as it is in this poem. I think the expression is Greek and not Latin. "Hoi" in Greek means "the" and "polloi" means "people". Thanks letting me have a say. Hope this is helpful. :-) "am a tourist not a terrorist, don't shoot, cause we are all on a journey to God" Michak |
