As I write, the bushfires are still burning and still threatening homes in Canberra and in my state of Victoria, Australia. These bushfires have shocked our nation, but amidst the tragedy there was some hope. There was a story in our daily paper about a family who salvaged a small ceramic angel amidst the rubble of what was once their home. They saw this as a symbol of hope and declared to keep it for when they rebuild a new home. * * * Mother Nature showed no mercy As smoke and ash filled the air The fire was fast and furious As it stripped the pine trees bare People left dazed in the aftermath They were in total disbelief The enormity of this tragedy Would soon plunge them into grief A family stood amongst the ruins That had once been their home There they found a token angel And three defiant garden gnomes The angel rose from the ashes Giving hope on a dismal day For Mother Nature had spoken And was determined to get her way I am in motion I am blue Love is an ocean I'm anchored in you - Shawn Mullins [This message has been edited by Suetang (01-21-2003 04:48 PM).] |

There are always "signs" if people choose to designate them so. Several years ago, a location to the south of us suffered from a severe tornado. A friend of ours had just brought home roses to celebrate he and his wife's anniversary. Once he got home, put the vase on the table, the sirens sounded, and they all headed for the basement. When the air cleared... their house was gone, but they survived, as did the table, where the roses remained, without a scratch, undisturbed. Thank God for angels... |

Sue: Very touching poem and story! I was thinking of you over last week-end when the news was showing the devastation by fire. Your poem reminds me of the cross made of steel girders, that the workmen found in the aftermath of 9-11, in the rubble from the towers. Betty Lou Hebert |

Sue, there have been articles and pictures in our local paper of the terrible fires in Canberra. This is an amazing miracle and I thank you for sharing it with all of us. There is always some hope in the worst of tragedies. I will continue to pray for rain and I am sorry that Mother Nature is acting up and hurting so many. Hugs, Marti Most of us go to our grave |

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Sue, this is so beautiful, this made me cry to think of a little girl picking up the ceramic angel and bringing it to her mother and her hugging it close crying knowing God and the angels are truly out helping and consoling everyone and no angel will ever be left alone to fall! (big hugggssssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, I send prayers and angel hugs out to everyone in the area and you, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Very nice poem.. Liked the picture too. Thanks for sharing. I wish to become a great poet some day, but it will only come in time. Til then, I shall write my poems, and wait. |

EVERYTHING about this was perfect, Sue!! Dang, gal! I know its heart-rendering to hear the displaced family stories, but you definitely selected the best to write about. Keep good care, Sue, and hope you don't get caught up in all of the fires. Jeff |
