Unwind the Clock Unwind the clock that marks my hours And ticks my life away Please place your little hand in mine And lead me on my way Unravel all the winding trails In memories zigzag maze And take me back to happiness That dwelled in childhood days Pronounce the simple words you know That make the meaning clear And squelch the haunting voices So confusing to my ear Lets run together in the fields And make a daisy chain Lets splutter in the puddles Of a warming April rain You put your little had in mine So safe and reassured You give me strength and purpose For the life I have endured I look into the wideness And the innocence of eye And there I find a depth of love That no one could deny Rewind the clock of history The pendulum of time For I have not a child’s face Nor innocence of mind I’d set my poet pen aside To grasp a youthful whim For I've become quite weary And my eyes are growing dim I write my grandson magic words To please and comfort him But as for me, the maze of life Still ferments to the brim And what I know of childhood Is safely kept within Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Nan (01-17-2003 08:48 AM).] |

Yet it lives and thrives in your little ones, dear lady - and if you were granted that wish, we wouldn't have the luxury of reading your words of wisdom... Beautifully done, Lizzy... ![]() |

Nan, We can relive some of the joys of childhood through our grandchildren, and I grasp onto those precious moments. I'm so fortunate to have them near me. Thank you, dear poetess. Toerag, And you, young man, have oodles of wisdom which I enjoy reading between the lines of your poetry. Thank you Marti, The pen sometimes sets itself down, and then picks itself up. One doesn't always have control. Thannk you for your kind words Passing Shadows, Thank you! I think there is a little child inside all of us. Sunshine, What would I do without them? Thanks Liz |

To look into the eyes of those little children is such a joy and a sure way to turn back the clock and relive our own childhood days. Beautiful poem, Elizabeth! |
