The child garden;
where boys, sprouting gangly as proud tulips,
reached through doorways
to stake their claims
on the tinkertoy field;
where girls blew north like dust devils
to set up plastic houses for
Barbie's Ken and kin;

but that was then.

Currently,
the politically correct, early instructional
institution for the higher non-judgmental,
dysfunctional theorem;
where Johnny, forcing a square peg into
a round hole, is notably notated
and whisked to therapy,
where Sally, with fists full of hair,
is ever so kindly asked to pretty please take
a ten-minute time out for self reflection.
Pretty Please?
In the naughty chair she dozes to her
dose of behavioral serum.

Mother is called. Sally whines.
Mother whines. Teacher blows
the hair off of her forehead,
throws up her hands,
and heads out the door
and is later seen tending to her garden.

Where the roots of the weed have grown
to Blue Ribbon proportions
it is difficult to determine whether
they are running,
away with a learning block hidden in their
little fingers, or escaping
their own frenetic world.

When you think you have heard it all,
listen more closely.

You must have been here before I came to this wonderful place. I'm certainly glad you came back, though. I really enjoyed your poem. It seemed like I was  actually looking through a window into the "child garden" you described. thank you for sharing.

Chanson, please know...
I know
and I pray daily
for our teachers,
that they not forsake,
the child.

Though it might be
the parents faults...
if not for our teachers?
Then whom?

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Dorene, it is so very saddening, whatever innocence used to be abundant now all seems to be cut in half and divided like the sedimentary rocks that sift into sand into the ocean grave! (sad sigh) I only pray these beautiful fields can again flourish with blissful laughter and unconditional love soon, God Bless You, I send angel hugs out to all, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Dorene, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Thank you for your thoughtful reply, Eliza. *s

Without getting into a lengthy discussion I'll just say that the person responsible for the child (parent or guardian) should take responsibility for the child from the get-go and implement age-appropriate disciplinary/teaching actions *before* reaching for the medication.

And this is just my humble opinion. *s
