Two archaeologists with tools
In that far land where pharaohs ruled
Were the first to notice it.
Some faded parchment buried there
Filled up with writing very rare
In a foreign kind of script.

With no idea what it meant
Quite hastily, the page was sent
To the college in Cairo.
For days they pondered on the page
And called in every linguist sage
But no one seemed to know.

'Twas not a language they had seen.
What could those scribbled symbols mean?
The message wasn't clear.
They compared with every language known
And even the Rosetta stone...
No answer did appear.

What secrets could this paper hold?
What message waiting to be told?
And...was it from this earth?
Or, possibly, it came to be
From some far distant galaxy
Where it had been given birth?

To NASA it was sent with haste,
Computers ran a frenzied pace
To try to find the key.
But it was all such gibberish
Although they worked till feverish
No answer did they see.

So, finally, they shut things down
Knowing no answer would be found
And, wearily went home.
So they were never to discover
The parchment that they had uncovered
Was one of Toerag's poems!

This was dug up from Open #2? That was so long ago, I don't even think I had been born yet! LOL

Glad you brought this back up to the light of day! Very informative and enlightening!

It sounds like Toe is a lot older than he has led many of his adoring fans to believe. lol

’Deer dearest heart, this as always is utterly utterly wonderful, go and dig up a few more pretty please If you really want to make this place sing with joy and delight, then you know what I want……………. And don’t forget Muffy while you are there.

Okay I know you don’t like to re-post, but this place simply lacks sparkle and quality so ….. please, just because its Christmas

Actually I hadn’t read this one and you know I’m in the archives far more than I’m in Open, what can I say it’s where the quality is I love it, of course it is witty perfectly phrased and presented the quality shines through. Excellent I love it utterly utterly utterly

Love and warm stuff
As always
Mushy

Breathe through the heat of our desire
Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the earthquake wind and fire

The battles rage without cessation
From Open One to Twenty-Four
And my wish this Christmas season?
They'll continue for many more.

Imagine my great surprise
when the wars, first realized
was way way back in Forum 1
that is where they were begun...

slinging jokes, good humor, too,
seemed quite like a Mulligan stew!
but wary is the poet who seeks
to join this throng, not for the meek!

But their humor is worn so well,
as Toe, and 'Deer and Long John, who tell
on each other through verse and line,
what life is like with those who rhyme.

(giggles in delight) Oh my gosh, that sure was beyond even the Paleolithic era of Passions, sweet friend, LOL, I'd say this is an entire new sect of writing that may never be understood! (sigh) This is marvelous, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Balladeer, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

There is only one thing that bothers me about this poem.

I'm afraid that it is so light hearted? That it won't be taken seriously.

I just keep looking at the fine weave and tight meter, and the slow unraveling tease of story telling--

dare I say it? I do, I DO!

PERFECT FLOW.

and just in case it slipped by someone?

hee...

just thought I would point it out!

secret !

Thanks for the repost. I'd missed it yanno. It was three forums before my time...grin.

Hey, Karen...it didn't slip by me.

'Deer...as the serene one said, this is perfectly penned,
and not only that...it made me smile too.
Love this and glad I dug it up tonight.
Love and hugs and stuff,
