We are like trees in a rainforest, always competing for sunlight and water, obsessed with becoming the biggest, tallest and strongest Sometimes, we even sneakily curl around the strong, clinging on tight, exploiting this hitch to greater heights In a village in Vietnam, 21 Singaporeans sang passionately to the tune of "Count on me, Singapore"~ a spontaneous rendition that lit world-weary faces and warmed jaded souls It's tough living in the rainforest But I can't imagine settling my roots somewhere else |

Kaile, Such insight (first stanza)...I really like this. So deep! Quite the talented poet... I just read your critique box for the first time. Ha! (now I know where that "tear this apart" came from [Svern]. ...smiling here). Enjoying your poetry a great deal. Warm regards, Pat ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |

Used to think of Singapore as a concrete jungle with lots and lots of buildings, but never ever thought that it's also another form of forest... yup, quite true... people seem to have to step on one another to better themselves, stealing nutrients from some and squashing others along the way. yet, in a world of it's own, there are also people who are still willing to serve bona fide. A really good job. So insightful and thought-inspiring... A trip away can definitely result in some serious soul-searching huh _,,,^.^,,,_ |

We grow towards the light and so sometimes cast others in our shadow. It isn't always intentional. The vines that hitch a ride can in time pull us down. The answer is a neat trimmed lawn, but what fun is that? This write celebrates uniqueness in a more sensitive light which it generously shares with others. |

Sometimes we need to hitch. Sometimes we are the ride and sometimes, the trailing shadow. Your sense of understanding the essence humanity is showing. |

Mysteria and passing shadows, both your comments are lessons that i have learnt from this overseas trip...let's hope that i internalise them and never forget! Pat, thanks very much for your support..i haven't been writing a lot recently and your comments made me motivated to catch hold of my fleeting thoughts and squeeze musings out of them... Mon Cherie, definitely..and i hope that we will one day go on a trip together and relive our secondary school days in Lake Toba! RSWells, looks like you got more from my poem than i ever intended ..i'm humbled that my poem inspired such thought-provoking comments from you...i'm trying to digest your words and absorb as much as i can...thanks for leaving your mark in this thread! garysgirl, "insight far beyond your years"...hell no, i am as childish and as selfish as young adults come...thanks very much for the compliment and i'll do my best to conceal my immaturity... Thanks Ron...i appreciate your comment too! Kacy, really? glad to know that i have grown up a little, at least in your eyes...will try to grow up more, be it emotionally, mentally or spiritually thanks all for reading..i'm flattered to come here and see so many comments on my thread... |
