Saturday, October 26, 2002 Remember, children, That your Mom and Dad Are always the ones who give you shades When the sun is too hot for you. And when you ask for a drink, Just remember if it isn’t too hot, Or the kettle isn’t empty, Your parents will always have a cup Ready for you. Parents always long for Their children by their chairs, Yet when they see their children are happy free, They are happy to see them go. But when you are at friends’ house, Do you miss your parents? Will you play and forget To give them a call, And say I love you. “Are parents mad at me?” They may indeed seem like bears. But, please, never be afraid, For it is out of love and worries, The urge of protecting you, That cause their face to frown. If they don’t love you, Why would they make themselves sad? So when you return home, Feel free to give your parents hugs, For family keep no record beside love. //The poem may seem to be simple, but it’s more than just someone didn’t phone home. The theme can apply to teenagers, and adults, too. I have been learning this lesson since I was born, yet sometimes I just can’t see my parents’ point of views; sometimes I’m just defensive. My Dad told me one day, “Vivian, before you defend yourselves in an argument, listen and acknowledge what others have to say. Acknowledge that you have different perspective, and try to see why they hold theirs. Think before you are going to give your opinions and words.” Eliza Simmons ~Sometimes when I look back at what I wrote, I don't recognize the 'Me' in the past anymore. (sigh) Your father is a very wise man just as you are a wise friend, sweet Eliza, yes, I feel it is a very important thing to be opinionated but also follow your father's words and respect their opinions as well even if they may seem the opposite, as long as they are also fair. (big hugggssssss) My heart is too saddened by how many children seem to rebel against their parents and see them as obstacles when most are only trying to protect them, unless of course parents were abusive to their children! (sigh) This is very well-said, sweet friend, God Bless You and your family and the children of the world, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Eliza, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Eliza, It seems to me anyway that the most simple things in life are the most applicable to my living... In that my son (age 9) has just left as of last night, I was just having an inner discussion on this very matter... I'm a stay at home Dad, so I am privileged, I suppose, to spend a bit more time with my children than probably the majority of the Dads out there and I was thinking how when my son is at home, though I love him dearly, how very much he gets on my nerves and then I was thinking the minute he is gone how very-very much I miss him. It tears my heart apart to even think about the day when he moves away from home for good. (OMG) Anyway, good poem that touched right where I live. Amen. -Bob |

Eliza: This is such great advice for all of us, no matter how old, who are lucky enough to have parents who care about them! Betty Lou Hebert |
