Freedom Some people’s whole lives are spent Bearing invisible chains. Never quite sure where the time went – Why so little of it remains. Putting on their independence, So determined to need nothing. Or trying to straddle the fence Between their world and that… something. And I watch her pinch each red cent With those diamond studded fingers. But with every empire-building dime spent, Where is it that her thought lingers? If she had it to do over, Might life hold a bit more giving? Or would the passions that drove her Again rob her of its living? As he’s running to his next high, Trying to out-distance all feeling… No longer content to just get by, With the life about him reeling… There’s nothing that he won’t try To alleviate the pain, After all his world’s just a lie That he’s been living in vain. But I remember how You saved me From chains I, myself, had donned. From the misery that chased me, And the chaos I had spawned. And I know if You could reach me, God, well you can reach them too. So Lord I pray that this might be – Lord, I pray tonight that You do. Send the words their ears will heed, Reveal Your glory to their starved eyes. Provide for them their every need… But sift out the wants, and lies. If it’s any consolation to them, May this testimony avail, That my first day of true freedom Was spent in Kern County Jail. There’s no trial that the Lord’s not Capable of seeing you through. And no measure of good will do what Only Jesus could do for you. You can’t outrun sin, save yourself from death, Or sneak in heaven’s back door. A simple confession of need in the depth Of your heart is all your looking for. Michael Anderson |

Michael, this can get one thinking in so many ways as to what is freedom and what is not. As young people we run from our parents' trials and tribulations because in our search for freedom, we bind ourselves to another...just to find our own trials and tribulations. The same can go for anything we "think" we need. We forget that He will provide everything we need if we rightly put our faith in His guidance. We're just so damned insistent that we get it NOW, whatever "it" is. I most certainly hope that this is read by those who most need it. I know I just did. "The business of the poet...is to show the sorriness underlying the grandest things and the grandeur underlying the sorriest things." Thomas Hardy |

My 32 year old grandson is now celebrating his 5th year of sobriety. He, too, has found his need was in the Lord, not the bottle. As I read your words, I think of him and all the others who still need to hear them, live adn feel them. An alcoholic neighbor said, "All those I thought were on my case for so long, were actually on my side, God showed me." God bless, Rae |

Rae, All those I thought were on my case for so long, were actually on my side, God showed me." True words... So many of us try to fill the hole within us with all the wrong things... only one thing fits, and that's God. Please give your grandson my congratulations. Mysteria, as am I for the most part... still, I can't help but ache for those who are where I was. |

There’s no trial that the Lord’s not Capable of seeing you through. He has seen you through much... and will be steadfast through whatever comes your way. As you give yourself to His purpose, may your testimony continue to touch hearts and change lives! |

Nice write. JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |
