In a run down ratty little two room on the no luck side of town, Sarah’s curled up cryin' with her baby in her arms. She never meant for things to turn out the way her mama said they would. Now her boyfriend’s gone, and she can’t go home, no matter how she wish she could. We always say the mission field’s across the ocean. We send our money over there, and just can’t help but smile We always say the mission field’s across the ocean We send our money over there, but who’s gonna dry her eyes? Miss Johnson lived her whole life lovin’ Jesus with a smile. She'd give her last dime if she had it, and had a kiss for every child But it seems the church forgot her When her husband up and died. She hits her knees prayin’, wonderin’ if the food will last this time We always say the mission field’s across the ocean. We send our money over there, and wake up with a smile. We always say the mission fields across the ocean. We send our money over there, but who’s gonna dry her eyes? Mary’s dad knows she’s got problems, but he just don’t understand. She got a razor in her bedroom and you can bet she’s got a plan. He don’t see her soul’s been bleeding since her mama passed away. And in the dead of night she’s cryin', as she’s rollin’ up her sleeves. We always say the mission field’s across the ocean. We send our money over there, and just can’t help but smile We always say the mission field’s across the ocean We send our money over there, but who’s gonna dry her eyes? |

The Mission fields do need our money and we can look around at home to find needs just as great. That is why we must work together to try to cover all of the bases. Very perceptive writing. Joyce |

I know this piece may seem a little harsh, but at the time I was attending a church whose pride and focus was on overseas missions, whilst the neighborhood and town were in desperate need of help spiritual and otherwise. It wasn't meant as a chastisement, but only a reminder that the Bible also speaks of taking care of your own back yard. zaac |

Whew! What a tear jerker. So true that there are so many, many needs right here in our very own communities and there has never been more of a desperate time than now to move closer and to be more committed to God. Thank you for sharing and God bless, -Bob |
