Pathway

She sought a proper resting place
For she was giving birth
Instead was offered shelter
In the humblest place on earth

What lowly bed! A cattle stall!
The dank of beast and hay
The earthy scent of hide and hoof
The sound of donkey bray

No comfort was afforded
‘Neath a roof that housed the wild
Yet in this place the Lord bestowed
The most exalted Child

His garment was a simple cloth
His room, a cattle stall
His cry for life was heard by beasts
Who knew no God at all

But He would rise from lowly hay
To heights no man has known
And sit upon the hallowed seat
Of God’s’ most lofty throne

No king nor prince, no man of wealth
Born under sheets of silk
No infant wrapped in threads of gold
And weaned on royal milk

Could reach this holy pinnacle
The realm of the divine
The height of pure perfection
And magnificence sublime

Though He is King of all the kings
And Lord above them all
He reigns supreme but yet his roots
Were in a cattle stall

So high he dwells, yet reaches down
To each and every man
And offers to uplift our soul
To places high and grand

What greater gift could be bestowed
Upon a soul as I
Than this, a pathway to His place
Beyond the starlit sky

From dark and musty stable
To a cross on Calvary
He lived in humble righteousness
And died for you and me

Liz - This is a great poem - and you didn't make any duplicates that I can see.  I think all's well, and I get to enjoy yet one more of your beauties..

You captured Christ from His humble beginnings as He was born in the manger to His glorious exhalation in the sky so seemingly effortless and to me that’s quite a feat as a poet and quite a privilege as a reader.

Thank you for sharing and God bless,

-Bob
