Just Before The Dawn -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One night the winds blew so wild And woke the sleeping of a child. Spooked the horses all bed down They broke loose and almost drown. It howled like a screaming cat Even scared the cave driven bat. And then it came just before dawn The dead quiet, the wind was gone. Then came the noise like a train Hearing it caused so much strain. For not a track was near us there In our hearts a constant prayer. Then as the sun we would have seen We saw the tail, and what a scene. Driven by a twisting cloud So little time was allowed. We yelled for each and every child Grabbed the baby as if wild. Turned the cattle on the run Hope it saves at least some. Our little puppy gripped on the way As we fled for a cellar stay. Food and water there for us Thinkin’ ahead, a real plus. When it was over all was gone Our little home spread on and on. Horses, cattle found in the woods Taken away was all our goods. But we had baby Jamie there And my sis Liz God did spare, And mom and pop and me in tow And puppy winning fearing woe. We lost nothing on that awful day All we wanted was there to stay. Each family member safe and sound God spared our lives for another round. Just before dawn when the night is black And faith and belief we easily lack, Is when the Lord has a wonderful plan If only we hold on to His love for man. Just before the Dawn in the darkest of your nights, God is hard at work to bring you promised lights…. JUST BEFORE THE DAWN By, Marie D. Glass (The Rhymer) 10/9/2006 |
