POVERTY Somewhere in a distant place Despair has marked a mother’s face Her sounds of weeping softly creep Into the silence of my sleep In what dark corner do you dwell? What truth have you declined to tell? Your endless fear and daily dread Invade the comfort of my bed How many days do you survive Without the food to stay alive? Your pain takes an eternal seat Beside the table where I eat What can I do? What can I say? But fall upon my knees to pray And there upon my carpet plea That God erase your poverty But God has aimed his sacred goal At destitution of the soul And you, my friend, have carved a space To rest your soul in heaven’s place Your arms have stretched to lofty height From depths of life’s most wretched plight And you were first upon your knee To pray for someone such as me ELizabeth Santos |

Elizabeth, A very touching poem. Your poem really does put the emphasis on the heart of the matter or on salvation and the heavenly rather than on the material and, WOW, what a beautiful beautiful vision (dream) and ending as the impoverished one for whom you pray prays for you. Again, a very touching and beautifully written poem, thanks for sharing it with us, and God bless you. -Bob |

So touching! I had to read it twice, not for further understanding, but to relish the beauty again. Rae |

Very lovely, deep and so true. There is the poverty of the soul as well as lack of food. God bless you and your writings. |

Yes, we should never forget that so many do not have enough to eat. The world must awaken to Love and find solutions. Your beautiful soul shines through your words, dear Elisabeth. Love, Margherita |

Yes you understand. We would like to see all the bad and lacking things in this life disappear, but we look at the physical and God looks at the spiritual. I think you captures the spiritual insight. thankyou From a reborn hippie |
