First Day of Perpetuation (Written form the female gender, First Ballade Written) Male banshee howls his message through the trees With pain no mortal tongue could e'er recite. He roams the earth and sweeps the seven seas, Then, righteous, stands before my bed tonight. I find his gentle whisper quite polite While in my ear his message he imparts, --Emotions like the wind have taken flight-- "Tread soft, my Love, upon my fragile heart." I feel his faint disclosure in the breeze, --Fair maiden in my dream has found her knight-- And in the stillness, black, I murmur, "Please... Please, hold me to your bosom... Hold me tight!! ...I know we could be lovers if you might." His presence pricks my soul like poisoned darts To think he'll disappear when comes the Light, "Tread soft, my Love, upon my fragile heart." Immortal ghost shall not your love appease? Come grasp me in your arms where souls delight. I know you hold all answers and the keys And to our end my dreams will turn out right. Though plans I've made are now but feelings trite, The eminence you've shown will not depart. Your love could never fail to reach great heights, "Tread soft, my Love, upon my fragile heart." With morn, when death shall end my earthly fight, --The mortal with immortal will then start-- Two leaving earth engaged in lover's plight, "Tread soft, my Love, upon my fragile heart." -Lighthouse Bob [This message has been edited by Lighthousebob (01-18-2003 09:54 AM).] |

I'm lost for words, this is totally exquisite. I am sorry I am not good at writing these replies at all, but I am in awe. |

Bob: This is a brilliant and beautiful ballade! I love this form and have written a few myself. It's so rarely seen anymore and is in a class by itself. You have done a masterful job on this. Betty Lou Hebert |

"With morn, when death shall end my earthly fight, --The mortal with immortal will then start-- Two leaving earth engaged in lover's plight, "Tread soft, my Love, upon my fragile heart." " My goodness!! This is such a beautiful love poem.. it is sad as well, for many things do end with light, but I like how they leave this earth together. Wonderful job on the ballad! I want to see more, much more!! Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.--Jesus Christ |

Bob, this is so beautiful. I love the reiteration of the line "Tread soft, my Love, upon my fragile heart." I've never written a ballad before. Any tips? What style (yours in iambic pentameter..that's what they're doing now at Poetry Workshop)..and should ballads be rhymed.. no freeverse style allowed. I'm so lazy looking for words to rhyme, I just write the 1st one that comes to mind. |
