Becoming ... I was energy before I was conceived as a seed in your womb. Still, I am in the process of becoming ... of realizing who I am. If you water me, I will grow ... into a beautiful healthy flower enjoyed by all, or an ugly monster, it all depends where you plant me ... If you plant me in a natural setting, I will naturally reflect the beauty all around me. I will grow strong and healthy, I will become who I was meant to be. Natures goodness will soak into my bones. The sky, the earth, the animals and the hard working people, they will shelter me and give me insight into the true nature of being. If however, you plant me in a cement jungle, amid dirty air and filthier people, then I will absorb their pollution. What I see, what I experience, will become reality for me. If drugs, poverty, degradation and despair are all around me, then I will be affected ... more than you know. Help me ... to color my world, but not with pictures of emptiness. Give me sunlight and laughter, kindness and compassion. Shower me with true love and surround me with the beauty of the earth. If you ignore me ... pretending that everything will be OK, then I will deform and wither. Who am I? Perhaps I am you, or the small flower like child you embrace. I am the child not seen or heard, the forgotten one ignored, the one that lives across town or on the other side of the globe. It doesn't matter who ... See me as your child, the one you never had, but the one you've always dreamed of! terasinas 6/30/2003 |

I like this. We are a product of what we're fed...surroundings, fear, love, trust, faith, etc. We are all 'becoming' until our last breath, I believe. Thanks for sharing this and welcome to Passions. Rae |

Your last stanza is exactly what I thought your poem was about. The things you describe are what children, inside their hearts, long for. It would be nice if everybody could have all of that. Let us pray that more than less receive this kind of love and attention that you describe in your poem. Sheri Adams Jesus lives in my heart! He can in yours too!!! |
