Another Chance

Last night we gathered happily, to count those speeding hours;
As one year met the other, amidst confetti showers.
We laughed and hugged and watched the ball, in slow but sure descent,
Each secretly asessing how the last year had been spent.

I wake to greet your New Year, Lord, the unused days ahead,
To find that time has passed on by, while I lay late in bed.
May this not be an omen,of the way I spend my days;
An allotment to be hoarded, not consumed in slothful ways.

TVs are turned to football, our favorites lose or win.
Tomorrow it won't matter as we start to work again.
I made New Year resolutions to live more thoughtfully.
I promised that I'd fill my days with a lot more You than me.

I will surely sometimes stumble, but reaching for Your hand,
I'll climb up on my feet again, with Your help I will stand.
Please remind me every day Lord, that without You all is lost.
Guide me to take the righteous path, nor stop to count the cost.

I thank You for this new year, the old one was full of woe.
I'm trusting in Your goodness, as the future I can't know.
With this new chance I'm given, I am primed to go ahead,
By taking one day at a time, as by my Lord I'm led.
