Most of the time,
I like being single,
I like where
I am in my life,
and, the choices I've made.

But, sometimes I feel
a certain kind of lonliness.
It's a sense of incompleteness
as if something is missing.

It's like there is part of me
that needs to belong
to someone else
to make me feel whole.

Like yesterday, I wished I had
someone who thought
I was more special than
anyone else in the entire world.

I tried not feeling
sorry for myself,
recalling relative and friends
who do love me.

But, that didn't help much.
My heart just ached.
I wanted so badly to share myself
and to please and make
someone happy, too.

I had this overwhelming need
to give my love
but, there was no one there.
Most of the time,
I like being single,

but, sometimes.......

..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons..

Oh, Pat, this is so real, so understandable.
For what it's worth, I'm sending you a great big hug and lots of loving energy, and I would be honored if you were to do the same for me as well! This receiving and giving of love may not be exactly what you are looking for, but every iddy biddy bit of loving exchanges may help somewhat!

Dear Pat.

Loneliness is something that no one grows to like
But when your heart is empty it is there
To be lucky and find friendship, which may lead to pure love
Is something that we all would love to share

Being single has its good points, all its freedom and the like
The choices and decisions you can make
Human nature keeps on calling to the heart to find a mate
Though searching could turn out a big mistake

There is loneliness in marriage when the love has disappeared
And many downs when searching what went wrong
Just keep your faith in destiny and what is yet to come
It will heed the wolf of loneliness and keep you going strong

Find a truth in all your friendships and sincerity in act
Unleash your thoughts to them as you have here
This loneliness will tumble then by warmth that you consume
And better then each day that fills the year

To love, to share, to give, to care
To be single, but to sometimes dare

I enjoyed the read Pat, goodluck with love as well as being single.

Your poem is very sweet. My mom is single too and sometimes she says stuff like that. But for the last year or so she has been with this really great guy, and she is really happy. I hope you find someone special too.

Wind, am happy for your mom, and thank you, if it is meant to be. But, I am quite content right now. And, I think that is one of the important areas of being single is finding the contentment before movng on...you know that baggage some carry around, having been unable to learn from past mistakes or heartaches...It does take longer for some than others, but, important to never give up growing and being willing to change, for, rarely can we change someone else.

Pat, thanks for sharing your heart with us. This was a very good poem. Yes, I experience this feeling "sometimes", too. ....the times when my Gary and I aren't with each other.....the times in between our visits are very hard. We didn't plan this when we started seeing each other, though. I do believe that the chance I'm taking is going to work out for the both of us very soon.

I have stood on both sides of this fence, and sometimes each side has it's benefits and downfalls.........

I have been married and that was very sad and lonley, and single and active, but, yes, this feeling of missing out...
