In the night a distant howl as wind swept leaves fell to earth. Shivers overcame my senses as my mind reeled.... What comes from the dark of bleakest night? Arriving on rasping steps ominous as doom. “Hark!”, I called...who this be? Silence answered.... Only silence... Shadows walked the window pane as shutters clashed and thunder rolled... Lightning streaks casting stark death in my face.... Those eyes...eyes glaring in through the portal....Unblinking and demonic, shudders come over me... Will the hours pass or end? Will time take life away? Will I survive....or die? The knob of a latched door, turning ever slowly....stopping...then moving... once more... Fear....overcomes the silent scream within my mind as eyes see..... The latch chain....swinging freely... As a crack appears within the door... Opening.... Who, what..... what might be at this hour....creeping in the dark of night...among the howling winds? “Mr. M.?....It’s me...Herman....you called..... Your pizza is here.” Darkness invades the mind.....falling to the floor....fainting....... As the wind howls....and a pizza gets cold.... |
